Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about BedrockCapsule, automatic world backups, and the Discord companion bot.

BedrockCapsule & Automatic Backups
What is BedrockCapsule?
BedrockCapsule is a free, standalone Windows desktop application for Minecraft Bedrock PC. It sits quietly in the background and automatically creates a timestamped zip archive of your worlds whenever you exit the game. If your save ever gets corrupted, deleted, or griefed, you can restore previous saves in a single click.
How does the automatic backup detection work?
Instead of constantly scanning your hard drive or wasting CPU cycles, BedrockCapsule simply watches for the Minecraft process to close. While you're actively playing, it consumes negligible CPU and RAM. The moment you exit the game, it triggers a fast, safe backup of your local world files.
Where are my world backups stored on my PC?
Backups are stored locally inside your user AppData directory (or your custom selected backup folder). Each backup is saved as a clean, compressed .zip file with an exact timestamp so you can easily browse or restore any point in time.
How do I restore a world from a previous backup?
Open the BedrockCapsule app, choose your world from the list, select the timestamped backup you wish to recover, and click Restore World. The app will safely place the restored world back into your Minecraft saves folder.
Do I need to install Python or extra runtimes to use the app?
No installation is required. Everything is pre-compiled into a standard standalone Windows installer (.exe) with all required runtimes bundled internally. It runs out of the box on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Safety, Privacy & Installation
Are the download files (.exe) completely safe?
Yes, 100%. Every program is developed and compiled directly by Nived Thakor with zero adware, background telemetry, or bundled third-party bloat. All backup operations run completely locally on your machine.
Why does Windows SmartScreen show a blue warning when I open the installer?
Microsoft SmartScreen automatically flags newly uploaded executables that haven't accrued thousands of historical downloads yet. Because this is an independent developer build, Windows shows a caution screen by default. Simply click "More info" and then "Run anyway". The file is completely clean.
Is the source code open to the public?
Yes! BedrockCapsule has a public repository on GitHub where you can inspect the code, review commits, or contribute feedback.
How do I uninstall BedrockCapsule?
BedrockCapsule is completely non-invasive. You can uninstall it anytime directly from Windows Settings > Installed Apps, or run the provided uninstaller in the program directory. It leaves no unwanted registry entries behind.
Discord Bot Companion
What does the BedrockCapsule Discord Bot do?
The Discord bot acts as a notification pipeline for your server. Whenever your desktop BedrockCapsule completes a world save, the bot posts a rich embed showing the world name, archive size, and timestamp in your chosen channel (e.g. #backup-logs).
Does the bot require administrator permissions?
No. The bot asks only for standard "Send Messages" and "Embed Links" permissions. It has zero access to administrative controls, user kick/ban privileges, or server settings.
Does the bot read or store private server chat messages?
No, never. Message history reading is completely disabled. The bot acts purely as an outbound logging transmitter and never monitors or stores your members' chats.
How do I connect the desktop app to the Discord bot?
1. Invite the bot to your server.
2. Right-click your desired text channel and click Copy Channel ID (requires Discord Developer Mode enabled).
3. Paste the Channel ID into your desktop BedrockCapsule app under the Discord settings and save.
Is the Discord bot free to use?
Yes, the bot is 100% free with no subscription tiers or paywalled features.
